Mortimer Campground
Value
This is a renovated CCC Campground with 2 new bath houses and renovated pads. This is a rustic place over 10 miles up a state maintained dirt road. No hookups and has common water spigot. Small campers and tenters only. Very clean and quiet place. Only $10 a night. Nestled privately in the mountains of NC.
Family Friendly
Was this campground good for families? Yes, with trails to explore, Wilson Creek near to fish or play in.
Staff
The campground host were very nice people with a lot of local information.
Bathrooms
Two bathrooms on each end were new and very well maintained.

No internet or cell phone service. Satellite only.
Camp Site
Sites were raised timber filled with small gravel mostly level with tables a firepit and lantern pole. Gravel drives good condition.
Laundry
No luandry available.
Other
Excellent stocked trout fishing. Rock climbing and OHV trails nearby, 2 or 4 wheel.

Overall
Very laid back and senic mountain area.

Value
Big site at a cheap price. However no electric hookups, but there was plenty of shade.
Family Friendly
State park campground with bikes trails, hiking, big playground, and lake to swim.
Staff
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms were alright. Mostly clean. Private shower stalls but open changing room area. Windows were are eye level allowing anyone to look in on folks showering or changing. Use caution while dressing and keep shower curtain closed tight.
Internet
No internet.
Camp Site
Spot was good sized gravel pad with table and nice fire ring. Spot was mostly level and easy to get into if you are experienced.
Laundry
NO laundry.

Big state park around a lake.

Overall
Had a good time hanging with friends here. Would use it again.

Decent value. Electric only spot. GPS was way way off. Make sure you use other address.
Family Friendly
Decent sized spot. Two playground available on a paved loop in a state park. Lots to do.

Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Clean state park type bathrooms. Semi rustic. Cleaner then most state parks with have been to with individual shower stalls.

No internet. Did have 3G cell service though.

Paved back in site. Was a decent size with 30amp electric.

Overall
Paved loops for bike riding. Sites were semi secluded from each other and decently sized with picnic table and fire ring. Not bad for cheap price.

Campground was decent. Little dirty since there was a lot of trees, grass couldn't really grow.
Family Friendly
Playground, hiking trails, lake to swim and fish, and game room gave plenty for families to do. They charge extra per kid though and the water slide costs extra.
Staff
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms had separate private showers that each had their own room. They were fairly clean given all the dirt outside.
Internet
Internet was available, but the connection was slow. Not enough internet for the amount of sites they had.
Camp Site
Spot was decent size with table and fire ring. Bring a carpet or rug or something though.
Laundry
Laundry onsite price wasn't bad. Typical stuff, nothing out of order.

Water slide, bike trails.

Overall
Decent place. Will probably stay again if we are back in the area. It's pretty dirty with no grass around sites, but it's manageable.

Price wasn't bad for a full hookup. The grass spot was level, but full of mosquitoes. We did not spend any time outside.

There was a playground and large field for the kids to play in. Campground was fenced. It had a slight redneck feel, but seemed ok.

Lady at counter seemed bored and uninterested, but was not rude or mean.

Dark dingy and dirty. Needed updating.

Price was a little high for not having full hookups on a grass spot. The spots where big and there was an awesome view and stuff for kids to do.

There was a playground, and they did not charge extra for kids. Plenty of room to run, swim, and boat.

Staff was super helpful and friendly.

Bathrooms were clean and private.

Internet was available, but it came over a satellite or broadband card and was slow. The signal was weak and we barely picked it up with our booster.

Spot was level grass. Had a picnic table and fire ring. I think it was a tent site since it only had 15amp eletric. We couldn't use A/C.

Good spot for a weekend or in a pinch. They did have full hook up spots, but not many of them. Lots of room to stretch out and the view is phenomenal!

Treasure Isle RV Park
Value
With our discount, the camp was a great value. There was a decent playground for the kids. There was a swimming area in the river thing. Lots of room for kids and dog to run.
Family Friendly
Camp was .25 mile off the road so safe for the kids to run and play. Playground, swimming and volleyball. Big camp sites perfect for a get together.
Staff
I found the owners to be extremely nice and friendly. This is always a super award in my book. I love to feel welcomed and accepted.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms were in a trailer in the middle of the camp. They were clean and well maintained. Showers had real doors to keep water from going everywhere.
Internet
They have a Verizon Hotspot if you go up to the office. You can't reach it from the sites. Owner explained that cable company wouldn't bring internet to them (typical of those companies). If I had more time I would offer to get some wifi going for them.
Camp Site
Pad was gravel and level. The rest of the spot was nice soft grass. Picnic table and fire ring. Pull through. Good size.
Laundry
Website says laundry onsite. We didn't go look at it.

Fishing swimming and boating available. Not sure if there is anything around to see or do.

Overall
This is a fairly new campground. It's under new ownership, and if they continue treating customers great they will have no problem making it. It's a nice place to hang out and would be great for season summer place.

SelKirk Shores State Park
Value
Seemed like a good deal until they started tacking on fees that were not listed online. Got nailed with a kid fee and an out of state fee and a pet fee. Then the site were all electric only, no water or sewer. The spots were all grass with a concrete pad for the picnic table. The ground was wet and soft. We ended up stuck and needed pulled out. Luckily I carry tow straps and someone was able to give us a pull.
Family Friendly
State park had plenty to do. Playground was pretty small. The swimming area was closed because of tainted water. There was plenty of room to run and play otherwise.
Staff
Staff tried to be helpful and even gave us a full refund after we got stuck and decided it wasn't worth the price.
Bathrooms
Old state park type bath rooms. Not very close to rv spots.
Internet
No internet and very little cell service.
Camp Site
Spot was good size, but it was all grass and it was soupy. No sewer or water. Had a concret patio with a picnic table and there was a fire ring. Not a lot of room to get in and out of the spot and we ended up stuck in the mud.

State park full of stuff. Close to 1000 islands.

Overall
This is probably a great place for weekenders. You are not allowed alcohol so you won't have to worry about rowdiness. All the facilities are a little dated, and we felt very ripped off after we saw what you got for how much they charged. Gravel would make a world of difference for their RV spots. Staff guy even told us people get stuck all the time.

Bears Sleepy Hollow Campground
Value
Little better then the state park as far as having at least gravel for the sites and full hookups, but totally lacking anything for kids to do and it's close to the highway. It does have internet though.
Family Friendly
Nothing for kids to do. And close to the highway so might not be safe to let the kids wander far.
Staff
Couldn't find anyone and they only returned a phone call after we gave up and went somewhere else.
Bathrooms
Older and small. Could use some work.
Internet
Internet available, but signal was weak. Speed was ok.
Camp Site
Gravel back in spots. Some are full hook up some are not. Some of the spots are very small and narrow. We couldn't get our slides out and still use the awning.

Typical laundry facility.

Fishing river running along one side of the campground. If you like to fish this would be a great place to do it. Right next door to the state park, so lots to do there.

Overall
Place seemed like more a retirement community with several of the tenants being much older. They were all friendly and tried to be helpful since the staff wasn't around. If they threw in a playground setup at one end it would be pretty decent.
